ABOUT THE RACE
A Journey Through the Heart of Magoebas
The Magoebas 100 is the flagship ultra-distance event of the Hi-Tec Magoebas trail running series. Covering 100 kilometres through the ancient indigenous forests, rugged mountain passes, and river valleys of the Limpopo province, this race is a true test of endurance, navigation, and mental fortitude.
Runners will traverse dense forest canopy, cross mountain streams, ascend exposed ridgelines, and descend into hidden valleys — all while surrounded by some of South Africa's most pristine and untouched wilderness. The M100 is not just a race; it's an expedition into the wild.
Route Description
The M100 is divided into three distinct sections, each presenting unique terrain and challenges.
01
Haenertsburg to Woodbush
0–38 km — Begin at the Magoebas base camp and descend into the ancient indigenous forest. Technical single track through dense canopy, river crossings, and waterfall passages. Elevation loss of 800m followed by a 600m climb.
02
Woodbush to Debengeni
35–70km — The crux of the race. Exposed ridgeline running with panoramic views of the Limpopo valley. Multiple summit ascents totalling 1,800m of climbing. Night running section with mandatory headlamp.
03
Debengeni to Finish
70–100km — The final push. Descend from the mountains through plantation trails and bushveld back to base camp. Rolling terrain with a final 400m climb before the finish. Aid stations every 8km.
